First to 1.92 and later to 1.94.In both versions I run into the issue that XnConvert freezes (not responding) when I add files/folders. I tried both, pulling files/folders into the window and adding them via button. It doesn't make any difference.Luckily I still had the setup file from v1.85.1. This is my first time posting. I have been using computers since 1976 (keypunch and mainframe). I am on my third Dell. I am having a very hard time with Vista. I have spent hours reading posts today, and see that there are many knowledgable people here. I would like to hear your opinions. I have a Dell Inspiron 531. It has an AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processor running at 2.61 GHz, 3 gigs of memory, NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE video card, a 320 GB Serial ATA hard drive. I have Vista Home Premium. I also have a lovely 22 inch flat panel monitor, which is marvelous. I got the computer almost 2 months ago. I run Avast anti-virus, and have Qwest broadband. I have had one crash that the computer was able to recover from. The computer freezes up about every 36 hours, and I haven't been able to find a way to fix that except to push the power button until it turns off, wait a couple minutes, and then power it back up again. Is there a Vista equivalent to CTL/ALT/DEL? I also have several screens that come up during start up that make me wonder if things installed correctly. My HP deskjet 825C won't work with it. I stole my daughter's HP psc 2110 all-in-one, and it works, but the buttons aren't supported, so I have to do convoluted things like scan into paint in order to send a fax. Worse, my printer doesn't work with my daughter's computer either, so now she uses a thumb drive to move documents to my computer in order to print them. I can't get my Kodak software to run, despite numerous trips to Kodak's website, and attempts to download the supposed fix. I have an Easyshare CX7330. I have. I was recently forced to perform a full reinstall of a computer due to it becoming unbootable. I have successfully reinstalled a clean installation of windows 10. When I try to install Avast free edition the progress bar shows it’s installing, but when it reaches the end of the bar the computer freezes. When I say freezes I mean everything, even the mouse becomes stuck at whatever position it was in before the freeze. The only way to “fix” it is to restart the computer. I am at a loss to explain why this is happening. Any help is appreciated. I have already attempted a second clean install, and checked the ssd for errors. I have also tried running sfc.exe and dism. Neither of those options returned anything wrong. I would hate to move to a different anitvirus, but I need to get their computer back up. What it look like when I’m not doing anything.Add to that anywhere between 30-70 CPU usage when loading websites, using programs, etc.I have not done anything to my PC, OS or programs. Avast just decided to start hogging up everything in the background right after the latest update. FNG13 March 28, 2020, 6:11pm 2 Okay, so now its running at 70-85 CPU and over 750k memory usage CONSTANTLY, and causing freezes constantly. So…Since Avast went from “Good.” to “Worse than McAfee.” in a matter of hours, anyone have any good alternatives? Cause my PC is actually becoming unusable with this BS resource hogging going on in the background. And no, its not doing scans, its not doing updates, its just idling and still eating up EVERYTHING. FNG13 March 28, 2020, 7:40pm 3 So, things I tried:Changing the settings and seeing if anything makes a difference. Didn’t work.Logging on/off. Didn’t work.Restarting the computer. This is the most common misconception about “cleaning''. Whenever my machine is behaving strangely, I clean it from top to bottom. This can wreak all sorts of havoc, from websites not opening, to programs not working properly, to random system freezes or crashes. In some cases, when these caches are not deleted, new data can’t overwrite them, and some programs may use old files instead of current ones. It fixes problems: Old cache files can cause errors. In some cases it’s only a few hundred megabytes, but if it’s been a while, you might free up multiple gigabytes! You’ll have more space for everything you actually need: more data, more programs, more everything! More disk space: Cleaning up your computer has the immediate benefit of giving you more disk space. Good PC hygiene gives you two concrete advantages: Why should I clean up these temporary files on my PC? These are just three ways you can wind up with a PC in need of a good computer cleaning. This is helpful in theory, but over time, this type of data adds up, and many applications tend to leave it there. These temporary files save you from needing to redownload a song each time you listen to it. For example, Spotify creates dozens of temporary cache folders in C:\Users\Sandro Villinger\AppData\Local\Spotify\Storage as I listen to music. When you launch and run any application or browse the web, this activity creates temporary files. Every time you update your operating system, it creates a backup of your old system files. 2025-04-17What it look like when I’m not doing anything.Add to that anywhere between 30-70 CPU usage when loading websites, using programs, etc.I have not done anything to my PC, OS or programs. Didn’t work.Using the Repair-function. Didn’t work.Reinstalling. Didn’t work.Only thing left to do is uninstall. Asyn March 29, 2020, 5:50am 4 Which Avast…? Problem remained.I then downloaded the latest Avast Premium Security and installed. Restarted Windows and it now seems to work normally. Hey i´ve got the same problem
