Jazakallah artinya semoga Allah membalasmu. Syukron artinya terima kasih. Dalam budaya internasional, ucapan doa dibalas dengan ucapan "amin". Ucapan terima kasih dibalas dengan "sama-sama" atau "terima kasih kembali". Bagaimana dalam Islam? Umumnya, kita membalas ucapan jazakallah dengan "waiyyaka/waiyyakum" (untukmu juga) atau "amin" (semoga Allah mengabulkan/kabulkanlah...!). Dan menjawab ucapan "syukron" dengan "afwan" (maaf saya hanya bisa berbuat demikian, tidak bisa lebih). Ada yang salah? Tidak ada yang salah karena ini termasuk kategori mu'amalah atau hubungan sosial. Namun demikian, ada juga yang mengatakan, ucapan jazakallah harus dijawab dengan jazakallah lagi. Bahkan, ada yang mengatakan, menjawab jazakallah dengan "waiyyakum" itu bid'ah karena tidak ada contohnya dari Rasul. Berikut ini sejumlah Fatwa Ulama yang berkaitan dengan ucapan jazakallah. Syeikh Muhammad ‘Umar Baazmool dari Universitas Ummul Quraa Mekah, ditanya: "Beberapa orang sering mengatakan “Amiin, waiyyaak” (yang artinya “Amiin, dan kepadamu juga”) setelah seseorang mengucapkan “Jazakallahu khairan” (yang berarti “semoga Allah membalas kebaikanmu”).
