I do know one thing for sure. When you make a new folder on the desktop or anywhere else, the icon you see is the default explorer folder icon. This icon is by default a pale yellow folder symbol. The default explorer folder icon can be changed, but it changes it EVERYWHERE within explorer and I know of no way that you can pick and choose the places you see it.
