The authors present a fault-tolerant clock synchronization system for datacenters that achieves around 100ns (yes, that’s nanoseconds) time-uncertainty bound under various types of failures. From the abstract: Sundial provides fast failure detection based on frequent synchronization messages in hardware. Sundial enables fast failure recovery using a novel graph based algorithm to precompute a backup plan that is generic to failures. Through experiments in a >500-machine testbed and large-scale simulations, we show that Sundial can achieve ~100ns time-uncertainty bound under different types of failures, which is more than two orders of magnitude lower than the state-of-the-art solutions. Sundial is able to get epsilon less than 100 nanoseconds using the following techniques to achieve better time synchronization:Performs timestamping and synchronization at L2 data link level in a point-to-point manner using the hardware NIC. Doing synchronization at the hardware level enables frequent synchronization to compensate for the uncontrollable clock drifts of quartz clocks. They send a synchronization signal every 500 microseconds to reduce clock drift of quartz clocks and to keep epsilon very small. Performing synchronization this frequently would not work over software.Sundial uses a spanning tree as the multi-hop synchronization structure and synchronizes the nodes with respect to a single root. Sundial uses predetermined backup parents to default to, so it can recover fast from link and root failures.ConclusionWe discussed a few different approaches for distributed time synchronization in this post, as summarized in the below table. We picked HLC, which combines the best of logical clocks and physical clocks. This ensured that we were able to meet the fundamental design principles for YugabyteDB mentioned earlier. When we began the YugabyteDB project in 2016, our premise was that clock synchronization in public clouds would keep getting better over time. This premise has already proven to be true with services such as Amazon Time Sync Service, which launched in 2017 followed by Time Sync for Azure.Lastly, it

Sundial was the codename of one of two massive nuclear bombs planned for testing by the University of California Radiation Laboratory, Livermore Branch as part of a classified[1][2] American weapons project in the early 1950s.[3] Announced by Edward Teller at a meeting of the General Advisory Committee of the Atomic Energy Commission, it was intended to have a yield of 10 gigatons of TNT, while its counterpart, Gnomon, was intended to have a yield of 1 gigaton.[4]This article needs additional citations for verification. (November 2024)If built and detonated, Sundial would have created a fireball up to 50 kilometers (30 miles) in diameter, instantly igniting everything within 400 kilometers (250 miles) and causing a magnitude 9 earthquake. It was thought that the explosion would lead to an apocalyptic nuclear winter, drastically lowering global temperatures and contaminating water sources, resulting in mass fatalities. The world underwent rapid changes in the wake of World War II, including significant advancements in technology and warfare. The death toll from World War II reached some 60 million,[5][6][7] and the introduction of nuclear weapons created a new level of fear and uncertainty. After the United States developed and deployed its first atomic bombs, the Soviet Union detonated its first bomb in 1949, leading to a nuclear arms race during which the number of nuclear weapons escalated from nine in 1946 to 20,000 by 1960.Edward Teller in 1958The first nuclear weapons to be developed relied solely on nuclear fission of plutonium or enriched uranium as their source of nuclearSundial Svg, Sun Dial Clipart, Sundial Cut File, Sundial Download

Benjamin Franklin is credited with contributing to the copper penny’s design. Published Aug. 15, 2024 Claim: The first U.S. official coin in circulation said “Mind Your Business” instead of “In God We Trust.” Rating: The birth of the United States in the 18th century brought with it the dawn of many things, including the design and minting of currency. According to some online posts, this included the first official one-cent coin in American circulation, which supposedly bore the slogan "Mind Your Business" rather than "In God We Trust."One Reddit post (archived) shared in 2023, for example, had received more than 9,000 upvotes at the time of this publication.Snopes dug through historical documents hosted by the U.S. Library of Congress and the National Museum of American History to confirm that this claim is true. The so-called Fugio cent — also known as the "Franklin," "Sun Dial," "Ring" and "Mind your business" cent — was first minted by Congress in 1787.The "sun and sundial on this coin symbolize time, and together with the Latin word fugio ('I fly'), they express the idea 'time flies.'" Below the sundial is the phrase "Mind Your Business." The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta wrote that both phrases are attributed to Benjamin Franklin. On the other side of the coin are 13 links forged into an unbroken chain, with "We Are One" representing the uniting of 13 colonies into one nation.(PGCS)The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia wrote that the government selected James Jarvis, a Connecticut coiner, to strike 300 tons of Fugio cents. However, the National Museum of American History reported, Jarvis "misdirected much of the metal to unauthorized projects," making the coins lightweight and unfavored by the general public. The copper coins were sold to a merchant at a loss and replaced by new coinage the next year. (For more on the commissioning and history of the Fugio coins, check out this explainer by the University of Notre Dame.)The United States Mint, which produces legal tender, wrote that in 1787, most states ratified the Constitution, establishing a new government and creating a new debate over national coinage. The Coinage Act of 1792 established national coins, replacing the Fugio cent. The Professional Coin Grading Service, a group that authenticates coins, classified the Fugio cent as one of the earliest U.S. regular-issue coins. An 1875 issue of the American Journal of Numismatics further confirms that the "Fugios" were the earliest coins issued by the authority of the United States:The records relating to them are very meagre, and the papers therein referred to cannot now by found. The entries in the journal of Congress contain all the information…Coin was made of copper, stamped on one side "thirteen circles linked together, a small circleComments

Where to Find All Treasure Map Gold Bars There are five Treasure Maps that lead you to gold bars: Landmarks of Riches, High Stakes, Jack Hall Gang, and The Poisonous Trail maps send you on what may feel like a wild goose chase. However, map four of each series leads you to stashes of gold bars. 6. Landmarks of Riches RDR2 Gold Bars Location To find the first map for Landmarks of Riches, head to the Obelisk landmark northwest of Lake Owanjila. Investigate the plaque to discover a hole that hides the map. From there, go to: Tiny Church: Located northeast above the letter “Y” in Lakay on the world map in the Bayou Nwa. Mysterious Hill Home: East of Donner Falls under the giant letter “I” on the world map. Bolger Glade: This is just east of Braithwaite Manor, east of the letter “W” on the world map. Mount Shann Sundial: Head to Mount Shann in Big Valley to find the Stone Sundial. You’ve pretty much made a loop, as you can see the Obelisk from its location. Examine the rocks that make up the different times to find six gold bars. 7. High Stakes Treasure Map Location To start the High Stakes Treasure Hunt side quest, you’ll need to find an old treasure hunter that wanders throughout New Hanover and Strawberry. He won’t give the map over willingly, so you either have to kill him, tie him up and steal it, or push him
2025-04-20Sundial was the codename of one of two massive nuclear bombs planned for testing by the University of California Radiation Laboratory, Livermore Branch as part of a classified[1][2] American weapons project in the early 1950s.[3] Announced by Edward Teller at a meeting of the General Advisory Committee of the Atomic Energy Commission, it was intended to have a yield of 10 gigatons of TNT, while its counterpart, Gnomon, was intended to have a yield of 1 gigaton.[4]This article needs additional citations for verification. After the United States developed and deployed its first atomic bombs, the Soviet Union detonated its first bomb in 1949, leading to a nuclear arms race during which the number of nuclear weapons escalated from nine in 1946 to 20,000 by 1960.Edward Teller in 1958The first nuclear weapons to be developed relied solely on nuclear fission of plutonium or enriched uranium as their source of nuclear
